I Wish - Wonder Inspire Serve Heal

Wonder

Inspire

Serve

Heal

A heartfelt and earnest effort to follow through with New Year’s Resolutions has, for many people, proven to be a fruitless endeavor. We make all these big plans to lose weight, be kinder, work harder etc., only to be crushed by the reality we are shlumphing the same person as we were last year, into this year. Good intentions take a back seat to Entenmann’s and Krispy Kremes. Marathon Netflix viewing takes the place of that trot around the neighbourhood we promised ourselves we would do but, the dog gives us the stink eye while we crack another cold one.

Forget about all those hard and fast parameters you created for yourself and take a minute to indulge the notion that you already are an amazing feat of human wonder. Live this year a little differently. Look from a new perspective and enjoy every moment of exploration. This is my mantra for the year - Wonder, Inspire, Serve, Heal. WISH.

Wonder

Wonder with childlike curiosity at how beautiful and symmetrical flowers are. Notice the way a bee dances and buzzes while drinking the nectar of the plant. Be amazed by the beauty of a sunrise or sunset in all its brilliance and awesome features. Lollygag around the park with your children watching them dig in the sand and try to imagine what they will be like when they are 20, 40, 80 years old. Indulge your craving for love by treating anyone in your life with the ultimate gift – your precious time. Wonder at the prospect of treating others so deliciously tender, that you can feel their appreciation and love in your heart, as if you were one.

Inspire

Inspire others by being an example of a flawed and imperfect soul doing their best to shed light on past mistakes and decisions that turned out less than exemplary to learn, grow and hopefully, not to repeat that learning process. Do one thing every week that you have never done before. Eat tiger ice cream, roll in some hay, kiss your dog, apply for a job you’ve always wanted, ask for a raise, say no when you mean it and yes when you mean it. Give it your all. Embrace the indulgence of not knowing what the result will be. Yuck or fabulous. Either one is perfect. Every week a new adventure.

Serve

Allow the joyful pursuit of quenching your appetite for connection by sharing your time, love, affections, skills, ideas, athleticism, abilities, and knowledge with others that want what you give. There is much grace in the power of your thoughtful and kind gestures, no matter the magnitude when given with love. Removing a bothersome hair tangled in an eyelash and placing it intentionally behind the ear is as meaningful as giving money to charity. Let others give to you. Receiving is also an act of kindness as it allows for reciprocation.

Heal

Healing is a multi-layered adventure that requires mindfulness and perseverance. Allow all of your feelings and emotions to wash you clean with your truth. Own them, embrace them, love them, then let them go. They are teaching you to be strong. Laugh with abandon, howl at the moon, and share your joy and your sorrows with others. Keep company with the troubadours of creativity, love and abundance. There is no time to waste on trivial pursuits of fighting, regret, and malevolence. Shine brightly so others can basque in the warmth of your glow. Let go of the fear of fear. Embrace your natural state and let go of any normal (highly overrated) way of being. Enjoy each moment. Stay present and most of all, just love, in all its forms, with all its repercussions. Just love – and don’t forget to put yourself at the top of the list.
